Polish Confectionery manufacturer Wawel is reportedly planning a new investment on a plot recently purchased for €498,000, located near its current production facility in Dobczyce.
The company’s chairman, Dariusz Orlowski, notes that the investment will begin in 2012, and will be completed in 2013 and is likely to include a new production facility. The Skinny Cow brand, which is owned by Nestle USA, has extended its product line into the confectionery segment with the introduction of Skinny Cow Dreamy Clusters and Skinny Cow Heavenly Crisp bars. A serving of each new product has 110 calories to 120 calories.

Despite a huge World Cup marketing campaign and a big drive to reduce saturated fats in the bar, Mars has fallen 20 places on the list of top brands compiled by The Grocer. Its sales fell 14.2% to £102.1 million, a £17m reduction in value. The actual Mars bar saw declining sales of 6% while Mars Delights and Mars Planets also showed poor performances alongside the novelty and Easter ranges. Two of the leading global food and beverage companies reported their 2010 financial results in the first two weeks of February. Both Unilever and Kraft Foods reported strong growth in their net sales, but profit margins remained largely flat, impacted by a number of factors.

Despite robust overall growth, Kraft is still suffering from costs associated with its £11.5bn Cadbury purchase, according to Kraft's full-year accounts. Nestlé has opened a US $136m manufacturing facility in Dubai which will be the third largest Kit Kat plant worldwide. The facility aims to serve Nestlé markets across the region, manufacturing Nestle brands such as Nido Milk and bottled water.

Kraft Foods is transferring part of the Cadbury business from UK to Switzerland in a move which could see it paying less corporation tax. The transfer of certain roles within Cadbury to Zurich would enable the company to save on UK tax bills, though Kraft confirmed that the move would not significantly affect Birmingham-based Cadbury's UK staff.

Nestle has opened a new a production facility for powdered milk and a packaging unit for imported Mackintosh's Quality Street chocolates.
