Sodiaal keeps stake in Yoplait

French dairy co-op Sodiaal has dismissed reports that it is ready to sell part of its 50% stake in yoghurt maker Yoplait. A company spokesman said that they wanted to remain as a shareholder in Yoplait to participate in chilled dairy market. Yoplait is jointly owned by Sodiaal and private equity group PAI partners.

The ownership of Yoplait has been the subject of rumours in previous week. It emerged that banks had approached PAI Partners with propositions from potential buyers to acquire it...

Dean Foods sold Rachel's to Lactalis

US dairy group Dean Foods has informed that it has sold UK organic business Rachel's to France's Lactalis. A spokesperson for Dean Foods confirmed the deal with Lactalis, one of Europe's largest dairy processors and owner of brands including President and Galbani.



Dean Foods reportedly hired advisers in late May to look into the sale of Rachel's. The US group acquired Rachel's in 2004 when it bought the company's owner, Horizon Organic Dairy.

Danone is heightening its focus on serving many of the world's poorest consumers living in Africa, Asia and South America. With sales momentum slowing in Western Europe and North America, Danone is just one of a growing list of multinationals that are now targeting shoppers on considerably more limited incomes across the globe.

Nestlé opens an Ice Cream Factory in Philippines

Nestlé, the world's largest food maker, has opened an  ice cream and dairy facility in the Philippines. The size of investment is PHP700m (US$15.6m).

The company has opened a site in in Pulilan’s Barangay Tibag to make products "appealing to Filipino taste preferences".

French Bongrain buys "Brunch" brand from Unilever

French cheese-make Bongrain has acquired the German spreads brand Brunch from UNILEVER. Bongrain, which owns the German soft cheese business Edelweiss, was manufacturing Brunch for Unilever as a co-packer .

A spokesman for Unilever Deutschland said the decision to sell Brunch was not a bad sign for the brand."It's a win-win situation, it's nothing against the brand," he said.

Both sides declined to comment on the financial details of the transaction.

Shares of Dean Foods Co, the largest U.S. milk producer, jumped as much as 8.3 percent, fueled by talk that France's Danone could acquire the company. Parmalat plans to enter baby-food business

Italian dairy group Parmalat has revealed plans to expand its baby-food business. CEO Enrico Bondi has identified baby food as a possible way for Parmalat to grow after a year in which milk price hikes boosted profits.

Danone launches flavoured milk in India

Danone has launched a flavoured milk under Choco Plus brand in India, which is the first dairy launch of Danone in the country. The 200ml product is priced at INR16 (US$0.13) and is being produced in a dairy product plant based in Pune, near Bombay.

Danone announced an increase in full-year profits. The company declared that  Danone sees 2010 financial and economic environment as  “challenging” .The announced net income reached EUR1.14bn (US$1.57bn), which corresponds to a 7.5% increase vs. 2008. Meiji Dairies, Yoplait team up on yoghurts

Japan's Meiji Dairies Corp. and fresh dairy products manufacturer Yoplait will launch yoghurt products under a common brand from March next year. Tokyo-based Meiji has signed a licence contract with the French group, which is jointly-owned by Sodiaal and PAI Partners. Parmalat expects better 2009

Italian dairy group Parmalat revelead 3rd quarter results where it has raised its 2009 FY forecast however its profit shows a 55.6% decrease versus last year same period. The company underlines that with EBITDA up 20.6% to EUR265.3m. EBITDA margin rose to 9.3%, up from 7.6% in the comparable period of last year.

EU: Ministers approve dairy support package

European farmers organisation Copa-Cogeca has welcomed the decision this morning (19 October) by EU ministers to back more urgent measures designed to succour Europe’s hard-pressed dairy sector.

Ministers agreed to include the industry amongst those eligible for swiftly released subsidies upon sudden and difficult falls in price and demand.
