The German discount retailer Aldi is withdrawing from Greece. Aldi plans to divest its 38 outlets in Greece and is currently in talks to sell the stores. This market exit will be the first in Aldi history.
The analysts say that Aldi could not fulfill the price expectations in Greece. It was competing with Lidl, the other famous German discounter. They also add that Aldi may withdraw from Poland in near future as well, since its expansion there is rather slow and the competition is fierce.
Aldi said it plans to focus its energies on developing in the nine other markets it operates in, including the UK, Ireland, the US and Australia.
