Dancake joint ventures with Indian Phandis

Portuguese confectionery and cake company Dan Cake has entered into a joint venture with Indian Phadnis Group. The new production facility will have five production lines focused on family cakes, butter cookies, Swiss rolls, cup cakes and lady fingers. The total production capacity of the plant in India is expected to be 10 tonnes per day in a 24-hour shift.

“To enter the Indian market at the earliest, we are considering initial production near Khopoli till our Chakan plant is fully functional. We plan to start retailing in India by Diwali,” says Kantilal Jamnadas, chairman of the board at Dan Cake.
The facility will be Dan Cake’s first-ever manufacturing plant outside Portugal and marks Phadnis Group’s foray into the manufacturing sector from hospitality sector. Dan Cake, which has a major market in Germany and France, retails its products outside Portugal under the brand name Danesita and will continue to use this name in India.

 

Mars consolidates Global Creative

In support of its global brand strategy, Mars is consolidating all global brand creative with BBDO and DDB. BBDO and DDB already work with Mars and will now be taking over additional brands from TBWA and SapientNitro, which will be phased out as of September.

Nestlé introduces Ramadan Quality Street

Nestlé International Travel Retail (NITR) has launched a limited edition of Quality Street in the Middle East region, suitable for the approaching holy month of Ramadan.

Hershey talks with former Cadbury CEO

Hershey has held talks with former Cadbury CEO Todd Stitzer about taking a seat on the board, according to Bloomberg. Interim chief John Bilbrey is the frontrunner for the CEO position, though Stitzer also is being considered for the role.

Hershey plans to name a permanent head before the end of June. One quoted possibility would be for Stitzer to join the Hershey board and mentor Bilbrey, who took the interim role after David West left to head Del Monte Foods.

Turkish Migros sells Shock Discount stores to Ulker Group

Turkish Migros, the leading retail group in Turkey (no relation with swiss Migros except brand name rights) sells the discount division Şok (Shock) to Ulker Group (owner of Godiva also known as Yildiz Holding) for 600 million TRL (380 mill. Wawel of Poland invests in new factory

Polish Confectionery manufacturer Wawel is reportedly planning a new investment on a plot recently purchased for €498,000, located near its current production facility in Dobczyce.

The company’s chairman, Dariusz Orlowski, notes that the investment will begin in 2012, and will be completed in 2013 and is likely to include a new production facility. Skinny Cow of USA enters in Confectionery

The Skinny Cow brand, which is owned by Nestle USA, has extended its product line into the confectionery segment with the introduction of Skinny Cow Dreamy Clusters and Skinny Cow Heavenly Crisp bars. A serving of each new product has 110 calories to 120 calories.

The Clusters are bite-size crisps covered with caramel and milk chocolate or dark chocolate. The bars are wafers layered with chocolate or peanut butter and coated with chocolate.
