Nestlé is in talks to buy leading Chinese confectionery firm Hsu Fu Chiin, a deal that would cost about $2.6bn.

Nestlé, the food group, is heightening its focus on Africa in a bid engage the region's new generation of "emerging consumers". Speaking to Bloomberg, Frits van Dijk, the firm's zone director for Asia, Oceania, Africa and the Middle East, argued economic growth and associated trends were exerting a profound effect. Fairtrade sales exceeded 1 bill pounds in the UK

UK Fairtrade sales jumped 40 per cent to an estimated retail value of £1.17bn in 2010 from £836m in 2009.

Sales of Fairtrade chocolate confectionery have more than quadrupled in 2010 to an estimated retail value of £342m, making chocolate the leading Fairtrade product by value in the UK, according to the Foundation. Sales of Fairtrade drinking chocolate have nearly trebled to an estimated retail value of £34m, it added.

Nestlé has  opened a US $136m manufacturing facility in Dubai which will be the third largest Kit Kat plant worldwide. The facility aims to serve Nestlé markets across the region, manufacturing Nestle brands such as Nido Milk and bottled water.

Swiss food group Nestlé is going to invest US$93.0 mill. in the construction of a Coffee-mate and Bear Brand powdered milk factory in the Philippines. Belgian Icecream Group (BIG) is for sale

Nestle consolidates Russian chocolate business

Nestle consolidates its Russian chocolate operations. The company will transfer production of its Komilfo and Ruzanna brands, which are currently manufactured in the Ruza district of the Moscow region, to the company’s Perm and Samara chocolate factories.  Upon the completion of this project, the Samara’s factory will become one of Nestle's largest chocolate factories. . 

Nestle acquired the Komilfo and Ruzanna brands and Ruza confectionery factory in November 2007.

Nestle, the world's biggest food group, said Saturday it will invest 5 billion pesos ($390 million) in Mexico over the next three years to increase coffee processing capacity, part of a $1 billion expansion plan.

Kraft Foods remains the favourite to buy Cadbury, a leading industry analyst claimed  even if US chocolate maker Hershey tables a bid for the Dairy Milk maker.

Hershey's controlling Trust has belatedly accepted that, without doing a deal, the chocolate company faces slow decline. That removes one obstacle to Hershey challenging Kraft in the battle for Cadbury.

In last couple of days news about Cadbury- Kraft deal comes one after the other. So when we start a new week we have  practically three options analysts talking about:

  • Kraft
  • Hershey and Ferero coalition
  • Nestlé may bid as well


But when all the rumors and analysis read carefully, what I see as the most interesting option would be a Hershey bid backed by Nestlé. Nestlé definetely will not like to see a "Kraftbury" threat to its chocolate market, but it cannot make a direct bid to Cadb...

Nestlé revealed 3rd quarter results...

The Global Food Giant revealed its third quarter results where it reported that the chocolate sector continued to perform well despite the decline in the growth rate in sugar confectionery, it noted that demand was weak in Russia, but many emerging markets, particularly Turkey, India and Chile, delivered strong growth.
