Many shoppers in the US are now displaying stronger preferences for specific brands than was the case last year, although a large number of consumers remain cautious.

PepsiCo moves away from conventional marketing

PepsiCo is seeking to move away from marketing based on a "big brand" philosophy and towards an approach that connects with its target audience in a more direct way.

Frank Cooper III, chief consumer engagement officer for PepsiCo's US beverage arm, argued that changing preferences and habits mean many traditional methods of advertising now seem outdated."We want to become a catalyst in the culture rather than act like a big brand announcing something," he said.

Recession Continues To Impact The Shopper Says Research

Top Shoppers Key to Supermarket Profitability

A 12-week analysis of more than 2 million grocery shoppers by Concept Shopping, Inc., Lisle, Ill., reveals that the top 10 percent of a given store's customers visit more than twice a week, spend more than $39.00 per visit and represent nearly 40 percent of the store’s total sales.
