The Turkish dried fruit sector is eyeing China, India and Russia as target markets, according to a press release from the Aegean Exporters’ Union, or EİB. The sector’s 2023 exports target is $5 billion.

The Turkish Dried Fruit Exporters’ Union’s sectoral board announced that they would organize a Sectoral Trade Delegation visit to the three BRIC countries selected as target markets, the press release read.

The sectoral board is a top-level decision-making mechanism in cultivation and export policies of seedless raisins, dried fig and dried apricots, in cultivation and export of which Turkey is the global leader.

Turkish Dried Fruit Exporters’ Union’s sectoral board met in the Aegean province of İzmir. Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Eli Alharal said that Turkish dried fruit sector registered $1.2 billion in exports in 2010, and they wanted to contribute to Turkey’s 2023 exports target of $500 billion by actualizing $5 billion in exports.

Alharal said that the sector predicted $1.5 billion in exports in 2011, adding they determined new target markets in order to achieve this export target.

“China, India and Russia, comprising 35 percent of the world population, raised a serious slice of wealthy consumers in the last years. The sectoral trade delegation targets this wealthy consumer group, believing that they are the right consumer target for the high quality Turkish dried fruits,” he said
