The US retailer Wal-Mart  revealed in its company-wide quarterly statement to the US Securities and Exchange Commission that it would close approximately 23 outlets and certain access points in Seiyu subsidiary in Japan. 

Wal-Mart bought shares in Seiyu in 2002, Japan's fifth-biggest retailer, later in March 2008  acquired majority interest and Seiku became a subsidiary of Wal-Mart. Seiku owns 371 stores in Japan (as of October 2009)
